Permanent hair removal, follicle by follicle
Electrolysis treats individual hair follicles using a fine sterile probe and a controlled electrical current. Because each follicle is treated separately, it is highly precise and can be used on a wide range of hair colours and skin tones, including hairs that are not suitable for laser.
It is especially useful for facial hair, chin and jawline growth, upper lip hair, brows and other small or detailed areas, as well as selected body areas where permanent removal is the goal.
All hair colours
Electrolysis does not rely on pigment in the hair, so blonde, red, grey, white and darker hairs can all be treated.
All skin tones
Treatment is focused inside the follicle rather than on the colour of the surrounding skin.
Precision facial work
Individual follicles can be targeted carefully on the chin, jaw, neck, upper lip and other facial areas.
Long-term treatment plans
Sessions are scheduled around the amount of visible hair and the natural hair-growth cycle.
How electrolysis works
A tiny sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A controlled current is applied to the follicle and the treated hair is then released. Successfully treated follicles lose their ability to produce that hair again.
Hair grows in cycles, so multiple appointments are normally required. The number and frequency of sessions vary according to the treatment area, density, growth cycle, previous hair-removal methods and hormonal influences.

Regular sessions
Appointments may be short or extended depending on the number of visible hairs and the area being cleared.
Progressive clearance
As different growth cycles appear, newly visible hairs are treated until the area becomes progressively clearer.
Facial hair, PCOS and hormonal growth
Electrolysis can permanently treat individual hairs that are already growing. When new facial hair is being stimulated by PCOS or another hormonal influence, the underlying hormonal activity may continue to produce new hairs over time, so a longer-term treatment plan is often needed.

Before your electrolysis appointment
- Do not wax, sugar, tweeze, thread or epilate the treatment area before electrolysis.
- Shaving or trimming between sessions is fine, but leave approximately 3 mm of visible hair for your appointment.
- Arrive with clean skin and minimal makeup where possible.
- Drink water and arrive well hydrated.
- Avoid excess caffeine immediately beforehand if it makes you more sensitive.
- Tell Adina about medication changes, pregnancy, allergies, medical conditions, blood-thinning medication, prescription skincare and recent skin procedures.
- Do not attend with sunburn, active infection, open wounds or irritated skin in the treatment area.
Between appointmentsDo not remove regrowth from the root with waxing, sugaring, tweezing, threading or an epilator. The hair needs to be present in the follicle for electrolysis treatment. Shaving or trimming is suitable between sessions.
Electrolysis aftercare
- Keep the treated area clean and avoid unnecessary touching for the first 24–48 hours.
- Avoid makeup on freshly treated facial areas for at least 24 hours where possible.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and heavy sweating during the initial settling period.
- Avoid perfume, deodorant, retinoids, acids, exfoliation and other active skincare on the treated area until the skin has settled.
- Protect exposed areas from direct sun and use broad-spectrum SPF once appropriate.
- Small raised follicles, temporary redness, warmth or tiny crusts can occur. Do not scratch or pick.

Advanced electrolysis for suitable benign skin lesions
Advanced electrolysis may be suitable for selected benign skin irregularities within Adina’s training and scope, including certain skin tags and other minor blemishes. Every concern must be assessed first. Adina does not diagnose skin conditions, and medical assessment or written clearance may be required where a lesion is uncertain or outside treatment scope.
Assessment comes first.Do not self-diagnose a lesion for treatment. Any changing, bleeding, unusual, pigmented or uncertain lesion should be medically assessed before cosmetic treatment is considered.
Electrolysis FAQs
Does electrolysis work permanently?
Electrolysis is used for permanent hair removal. A successfully treated follicle cannot produce that same hair again, but several appointments are normally required because hairs appear in different growth cycles.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no single number that applies to everyone. Treatment time depends on the area, density, hair-growth cycle, previous hair removal and whether hormonal activity is continuing to stimulate new hairs.
Can electrolysis treat blonde, red, grey or white hair?
Yes. Electrolysis does not depend on pigment in the hair, which is one reason it can be useful for hair colours that laser cannot effectively target.
Can I have electrolysis for PCOS facial hair?
Yes. Electrolysis can permanently treat existing hairs. If hormones continue to stimulate new growth, ongoing sessions may be needed as new hairs become visible. Medical assessment can also be useful when facial hair is new, rapidly changing or associated with other symptoms.
Can I tweeze or wax between electrolysis appointments?
No. Removing the hair from the root makes it unavailable for treatment. Shaving or trimming is the better option between sessions.
What reactions are normal after treatment?
Temporary redness, warmth, slight swelling and small raised follicles can occur. Tiny crusts may also form after treatment. They should be left to release naturally.
